Due sono le novità interessanti della versione di dicembre 2011 di SQL Azure per le applicazioni che richiedono database di dimensioni non proprio piccoli.
La prima è l’innalzamento da 50 a 150 GB della dimensione massima per ogni singolo database business edition. Il tutto senza un innalzamento dei costi che rimangono, come valore massmio mensile 354,5646 Euro.
La seconda è la semplificazione delle operazioni per rendere “elastico” il database ovvero per gestire la federazione di database.
Per chi non ha mai sentito parlare di SQL Azure Federation riporto il testo della documentazione ufficiale:
SQL Azure Federation is a core feature of SQL Azure that enables the database tier to be elastically scaled out across multiple nodes. This new feature makes it dramatically easier for you to set up an elastic database tier that can repartition based on application workloads. SQL Azure Federation provides you unlimited scale, great price-performance and simplified multi-tenancy for modern cloud applications.
Capabilities and Benefits of SQL Azure Federation
Unlimited Scalability
- Federations enable horizontal partitioning or ‘sharding’ of data across many nodes to gain unlimited scalability in the application.
Elasticity for the best price-performance
- The online repartitioning of the database tier combined with the pay-as-you-go model in SQL Azure enables administrators to easily optimize cost and performance by changing the number of databases/nodes they engage for their database workload at any given time.
Simplified multi-tenancy
- With federations, applications can repartition to promote any tenant of a multi-tenant database to a single database node per tenant without incurring downtime for the reconfiguration.
Dopo l’abbassamento dei costi di qualche mese fa, si riducono anche le tariffe di altri servizi.
Riporto testualmente:
- Reduced price for data transfers:
- 0.0852 € per GB for outbound data transfers for Zone 1 (Europe and North America)
- 0.1348 € per GB for outbound data transfers for Zone 2 (all other locations)
- Service Bus is free for a promotional period:
- Service Bus is migrating to a new billing model based on relay hours and messages. To help customers get a feel for this new model, Service Bus is offered at no charge (except for standard data transfer fees) for billing months beginning before April 1, 2012.
- For billing periods beginning on or after April 1, 2012, Service Bus will be charged as follows:
- 0.0710 € per 100 relay hours
- 0.0071 € per 10,000 messages
- Access Control’s period of free service has been extended:
- Access Control’s period of free service has been extended through November 30, 2012.
- For billing periods beginning on or after December 1, 2012, Access Control will be charged at 1.4114 € per 100,000 transactions.
- SQL Azure database size limit increased to 150 GB:
- Size limit on a SQL Azure Business Edition database has increased from 50 GB to 150 GB.
- Maximum charge for an individual database remains unchanged and is capped at 354.5646 € per billing month.
The SQL Azure Business Edition cap of 354.5646 € per database per month is based on the accumulated charges for the entire billing month for each database.
Our billing cap allows you to scale your database from 50 GB to 150 GB at no additional charge, which lowers the effective price for larger volumes. For example, a customer who uses a 150 GB database for an entire billing month will see an effective price drop of 67%.
Stamani con quel pizzico di apprensione che accompagna sempre la pubblicazione di un sito web (o di una qualunque applicazione) abbiamo fatto uscire il sito del .NET Campus 2012.
Grazie al nostro architetto (non del software…un architetto nel vero senso della parola) e alla collaborazione fra ThinkAhead e WhiteLemon il sito, già nelle sue prime fasi beta, è piaciuto molto.
Lo stile Metro ha colpito subito…almeno tutti coloro che ci hanno scritto positivamente.
